Engineer position at CICESE

The Department of Physical Oceanography of CICESE is seeking for an engineer or graduate (preferentially in technological careers: informatics and computing, electronics, or physics) to work in the frame of a SENER‐CONACYT funding for the implementation of an Autonomous Observing System of Mesoscale and Submesoscale Structures in the Western Gulf of Mexico with Gliders starting on March 2015.

The aim of this full time position is related to maintenance/verification and piloting of a fleet of gliders in the Gulf of Mexico to measure, systematically, the physical and biogeochemical structure of meso‐ and sub‐mesoscale flows ubiquitous in the western Gulf of Mexico.

The applicant is expected to have experience with oceanography and, specifically, with autonomous subaquatic vessels (gliders), mechanical and electronic technology, and oceanographic instrumentation.

The applicant will also participate in monitoring physical and biogeochemical measurements remotely from the communication center at CICESE and will also participate in the oceanographic campaigns and in the publication of technical reports of the campaigns.

Previous knowledge on data analysis using programming languages such as Fortran and Matlab is desirable. Good English skills (oral and written) are also required.

The salary of this full time position will depend on the qualifications of the candidate. The contract will cover a period of one year and it might be extended up to 5 year depending on progress.

Interested persons, with immediate availability, are invited to submit a motivation letter and curriculum vitae with full contact information to Enric Pallàs Sanz (epallas@cicese.mx) or José Luís Ochoa de la Torre (jochoa@cicese.mx).
