The successful candidate will research and develop methods for the design and implementation of oceanographic sampling networks consisting of mobile, autonomous underwater systems (ocean gliders).
Description
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The candidate must have:
1. PhD in areas related to physical oceanography and/ r computer programming from an internationally-recognized university or a research institute.
2. At least one year of post-doctoral experience.
3. Background knowledge and the possibility of developing an independent project in optimal sampling network designs or related topics.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are also considered an advantage:
1. Knowledge of the operation and handling of gliders.
2. Experience in the management and processing of in situ oceanographic data and metadata and the application and development of international standards.
3. Experience in presenting scientific, navigation and engineering information using geographical visualization tools.
4. Programming in Matlab and/or Python and knowledge of UNIX-based operating systems.
5. Communication skills (both written and oral) in the English language.
6. Ability to work as a team with local and with international colleagues.
